Dr. Powell is a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst at The Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY) (NYU affiliated) and at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (NYC). She is the vice-president of the American Association for Psychoanalytic Education, founding member of Black Psychoanalysts Speak, and is co-chair of the Holmes Commission, Commission on Racial Equity in the American Psychoanalytic Association (CO-REAP). Dr. Powell is the 2021 recipient of the American Psychoanalytic Association Candidate’s Council Master Teacher of the Year award. Upcoming publications include: Do Black Lives Matter: The Psychic Resistance to ChangeJahrbuch der Psychoanalyse (Yearbook of Psychoanalysis), Germany, 2021 pending. Dr. Powell is Section Editor and chapter contributor for racial and ethnic diversity for Glen Gabbard's Textbook of Psychotherapeutic Treatments, Second Edition that is in development for 2022.
